Pain & Self Management
Self Management is an approach to improving health and well-being that is especially helpful for long term health problems like Chronic Pain. It works by addressing the impacts that a condition has on life.
Impacts like stress, anxiety and over-doing things and poor sleep, often get confused with the condition itself and make a difficult situation much worse.
It is important to take control wherever possible through improving understanding and building skills in relaxation, stress management, pacing and challenging negative thinking.
The Self Management approach is based on a Bio-Psycho-Social model of health, which simply means that people get ill, not just bits of bodies. It is an approach that addresses the experience of the normal individual with his or her thoughts and feelings and their interaction with family and society; as such it is an important complement to Clinical approaches.
